Who would have thought a hot contender for the Honourable Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition is another bilingual guy from Toronto and not a Member of Parliament?

I have a strange feeling about the NDP’s next leadership race.  I predict it will run very orderly, showcase great candidates, and let Canadians know the calibre and depth of the NDP lineup of respectable politicians.  And at the end, it will be a first ballot win–like Jack in 2003, or like in another party when Stephen Harper became leader in 2004.  The NDP’s next leadership race will be nothing like the way the Liberals held their leadership races in the last decade.

I believe people around Jack is carrying out Jack’s wishes. And Jack really had Brian Topp in mind to take the party leadership.

It’s also possible there’s a real sense of unity, stemming from the recent electoral success and Layton’s death. I could see the party not wanting to upset that, and will do its best to avoid a bloodbath.

They’ve got a lot of momentum and good will built up. It seems it would be wise to keep that going.

(And, after writing all that, I’m sure the knives are being sharpened, and I’ll be proven completely wrong.)
