Benedict steps down

So Pope Benedict XVI has resigned. For eight years, he led one of the largest and most troubled churches. He had the opportunity to do great things. He could have worked to reform an institution steeped in rape and misogyny. Instead, Joseph Ratzinger tweeted.

    Ratzinger is simply another in a very long line of those complicit in child sexual abuse, he will be replaced by another who has been equally complicit in that abuse, and the great wheel of Vatican life will turn.

    My first thought on his resignation announcement was “when will the personal scandal he can’t avoid” hit the media?
